St. Mary
The Mljet NP will not disappoint the fans of cultural heritage either, thanks to its numerous archaeological finds and the heritage of our ancestors present in the old island settlements. The Benedictine monastery located at one of the most beautiful locations in these areas, on the island of St. Mary on Veliko jezero is also the most visited location of the National Park. Standing on a tiny island in the middle of a lake, on an island in the Adriatic Sea – St Mary’s Monastery gives new meaning to the word ‘secluded’. A short boat ride across glass-clear waters takes you to the 12th century building, inarguably one of Croatia’s most picturesque points.
Ulysses cave
On the south part of the island you can find Odysseus cave which is an geomorphology phenomena. It is a karst hole which looks like a pit. It is connected with open sea by small and low tunel, through wich it is possible to pass just during nice weather. According to legend, after his shipwreck on the island of Ogigija, Odysseus spent seven years looking at offing to his home and beloved Penelopa, while beautiful nymph Kalipso, Posejdon's daughter, was looking at the same time, with love, at Odysseus.
Soline is a small tourism settlement located in the canal of the same name, exiting the Large Lake towards the open sea. Due to the shallowness of the canal, the Benedictines filled the natural basins with sea, and when the sea evaporated, they would collect the salt. Later, the settlement was named Soline (sol = salt) after this production.

Pomena bay
Pomena is located in a small attractive bay on the northwestern side of the island. With only 300 meters away from the miraculous Small Lake, famous for its healing mud and water temperatures over 30 degrees celzius in July and August, Pomena is the strongest settlement of Mljet in terms of tourism.
Polače bay
Polače is the oldest settlement as they date back to the Greek and Illyrian period. Today, they house a great deal of buildings and archaeological monuments such as the remains of the Roman vilae rusticate and thermal baths, an antique residential complex (palace) constructed near the end of the 5th century and the early Christian church from the 5th – 6th century.
Wild stone pines located here are among the most beautiful of their type, and the fine sand of the bays of Saplunara and Blac with reefs are reminiscent of the parts of the Earth that are rightly considered the treasure of this world. The area of Saplunara was recognized as an area of immense natural beauty and it was protected as an important landscape.
